Well done to all of the students who competed on Saturday at
Verulamium Park in the County X-Country Championships. There was an excellent
standard of athletics taking place and a number of our students ran very well.
The best performance of the day came from year 7 student Elliot Breen finishing
3rd. This is an excellent achievement and bodes well for the future.

Thursday 31st January
On Thursday the year 10 football team took on St. Columbas
in the 1st round of the District Cup. The game was played on
Westmintser Lodge’s pitch and the conditions were surprisingly good considering
the rain and snow that has fallen lately. The team started very strongly and
quickly established the lead as Toby Parker pounced on a cross from Luke Foster
after 10 minutes. The game continued to ebb and flow as possession was being
exchanged by both teams. As the second half started it soon became evident that
SCC were attacking to get the equaliser. There were some excellent saves from
Tom McLeod to keep the opposition out and this was ultimately what won the
game. Well done on a well fought result.
Friday 1st February
The year 10 team took on Mount Grace in their second game in
two days. The occasion seemed to get the better of the team and after 10
minutes we were 2-0 down to a team that did not seem to have the quality we
did. The game was always going to be an uphill battle from there and by half
time the score was 3-0. The second half was a closer affair and we managed to
win it 2-1 with goals from Toby Parker and Greg Moseley.
The year 7 team played Townsend in the last 16 of the County
Cup for a place in the Quarter Final. The pitch was very wet and heavy
underfoot and did change the style of football played. There were some
excellent performances in a game that became quite heated at times. Louis
Roberts played exceptionally well, even contributing to the scoreline which
finished at 3-2, putting us into the quarter final of the competition. A very
good performance under the circumstances and a well-deserved spot in the next
round.

Year 7/8 Girls Football Tournament
Year 7 – An excellent performance from the year 7 girls
again in a local tournament saw they have a variety of results and lots of possession
of the ball. It was a frustrating time as Sandringham had all the ball and were
often in the opponents half but failed to convert any chances into goals! There
were some excellent performances from players such as Emma Wilkinson, Jess Levy
and Megan Roome. The final outcome of the tournament was a good 4th
place. This week’s player of the tournament was Sophie Hegerty for excellent
attacking prowess and determination. Well done all girls involved!
Year 8 – The tournament saw the year 8 Sandringham team
dominate their first two games where lots of goals were scored. Some great
efforts from all the girls left them narrowly missing out on going through to
final from their pool as they lost unfortunately to STAGS but there were some
courageous individual performances from Maya Yapp, Ellen Fox and Charlie Boyle.
A fantastic show of goals and some great interchange between defence and attack
was great to see and well done to all girls who played!
Tuesday 5th February
Year 8 Football vs Broxbourne (H) 3-1 County Cup
It was a fantastic game which saw two sides
battle it out on a cold and windy afternoon. There was some great defensive
performances from Oliver Moody in goal and Hayden Kemp-Robertson, Adam Smith
and Alex Stevens to deny Broxbourne many clear cut chances at goal. Marco Merlo
opened up the scoring late into the first half with an amazing left footed
strike just beating the goalkeepers hand and dropping into the net. At half
time Sandringham were dominating in possession and chances on goal finishing
the half 1-0 up. After the break Broxbourne fought back with some good phases
of play and got themselves back into game scoring from a fast break where
Sandringham lost possession high up the pitch. The Sandringham team worked hard
to get themselves back in front when the ball dropped to Bilal Bendahman whose
shot was saved narrowly going into the far corner of the goal to make the score
2-1. Sandringham them looked strong in attack once more and soon after the
second goal Marco Merlo doubled his tally with a fantastic driving shot across
the goalkeeper into the far corner of the goal. Broxbourne struggled to get
back into the game through excellent defending and concentration from players
such as Oscar James, Ashley Willing and Kyle Hoyte. The man of the match this
week went to Marco Merlo for inspiring the team to victory and contributing two
goals to the game. Well done boys! Now through to the quarter finals of the
county cup.
