Rugby V Beaumont

Another tough round of Saturday fixtures for us today. We were up against Beaumont in our first set of group games. The year 9 and10's were away and found the transition back to rugby hard, Beaumonts game last week definitely helped them. The year 9s led 17-12 at the half and had the slope to contend with second half which proved a little too much and ended up going down by 2 tries. The year 10 team with a bare 15 against a very strong Beaumont side had to figh hard for every ball and opportunity. They were 4 tries behind at the half having lost Tom McLeod. 2 more injuries and an ambulance put an end to the game, but not without some great performances from Jack Sykes Alex Frankl and Stephen Kerslake. The year8's again led at half time but had to try and hold off the force of Beaumont and were edged out marginally 28-12.

Well done boys, lots of lessons to learn. Back to football and Sir John Lawes next Saturday.

Basketball

Competitive basketball started again today at Sandringham. The year 10s got off to a winning start in the District League with a very big win against St. Albans without Alex Cleaver who was playing for the U18s. There were good displays from Keni Akuti and Dan Goldingay.

Over in Cheshunt the U18s played in the Herts Rally and for the first time ever came up against St. Mary's, the county's newest Basketball Academy. We beat Richard Hale then narrowly lost to St. Mary's and Beaumont. There were some good performances and a solid start to the year, which should see many of the year 11 boys continue their successes.

This Thursday the year 9 team play St. Columbas in the county league in their first game.

Year 7 Mob Race

On Tuesday over 400 year 7 students from across St. Albans and Harpenden descended on Sandringham’s school field for our annual Mob Race. The weather held off for a change and the students were eager for their first taste of competitive secondary school sport after a summer of success. The girls race was won by St. Albans Girls School and the boys race won by Verulam. The turnout for Sandringham was phenomenal with close to 100 students from our new year 7 taking part and entering into the spirit of the event. First girl home for us was Grace Gill in 6th position and first boy; Elliot Breen in 7th. The event was a huge success and I look forward to reporting on even more from all year groups throughout the year.
